The race is part of a series of 5K runs/fitness walks that raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer.

This year, one team will represent all entities — UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC Physicians. To participate with the team, follow the steps below:

  • Visit the Komen Race for the Cure website.
  • Click on Register link located in the left hand navigator column.
  • Select the “Join an existing team” button

There is a UNMC/The Nebraska Medical Center/UNMC Physicians team under “UNMC,” captained by Karli Burt.

Online registration closes Oct. 2. Race packets may be picked up at the Olson Center for Women’s Health Reseource Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4.

As one of the many corporate sponsors for Komen Race for the Cure, UNMC Physicians, The Nebraska Medical Center, The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center and UNMC will have a fun photo activity at the race sponsor exhibition from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. the day of the race to help celebrate and honor breast cancer survivors.

Another activity new to the race this year is the Plant a Flower event. As part of the registration process, participants are invited to purchase and decorate pink plastic flowers with personal messages to loved ones, photos and tributes.

The flowers will be prominently displayed in the anniversary garden on race morning and may be gathered and taken home after the race.
