Spirit Week events set for Oct. 28 to 31

In appreciation of their extraordinary work, UNMC employees and students are invited to the annual Spirit Week celebration, Oct. 28 to 31.

Events on the Omaha campus (activities vary at UNMC campuses in Kearney, Scottsbluff, Lincoln and Norfolk) include:












Pre-Spirit Week Events


  • From Oct 14 to 17, nominate people to be “pied” here. See Thursday’s event for details.
  • For a $1 donation, sign up to pie the nominated person of your choice. Donations to the Student Senate Scholarship Fund.
  • Oct. 21-24: Special Spirit Week T-shirts sold.
    • Sorrell Center (Monday and Wednesday) and the Durham Research Center (Tuesday and Thursday), 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.




Throughout Spirit Week:

  • Free admission to the Center for Healthy Living (includes fitness classes) for employees and students with ID badge. See fitness class schedule.
  • Find the UNMC icon – Be the first to spot one of 20 hidden icons in campus buildings Monday through Thursday and win a T-shirt.

Monday, Oct. 28
Sorrell Center, 7 to 9 a.m.; Durham Research Center, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

  • Free coffee and hot chocolate as well as fruit, yogurt, granola bars and cinnamon rolls.
  • Free UNMC hand sanitizer.
  • Free LiveGreen mugs while supplies last.
  • UNMC Bookstore to sell apparel in DRC.

Tuesday, Oct. 29
Sorrell Center, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Make your own popcorn bar (Sorrell Center, second floor).
  • Scavenger hunt with an “Amazing Race” twist (teams of three to five meet at the ice rink at 11 a.m. for check-in and rules). Prizes to top three teams. Register teams by noon on Oct. 28.
  • Chicago Dawg House on site near ice rink (cash only).
  • UNMC Bookstore to sell apparel in the Sorrell Center, second floor.

Wednesday, Oct 30
11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Scott Student Plaza

  • Five-minute massages.
  • Yoga at 11:30 a.m.
  • Assorted fruit and water available.
  • Free UNMC Spirit Week water bottle koozie.
  • UNMC Bookstore to sell fitness apparel.

Thursday, Oct 31
11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Scott Student Plaza

  • Costume contest, 11:30 a.m. Win two Nebraska vs. Michigan State football tickets. Pictures of the winning costume from each UNMC campus will be posted on Facebook — the photo with the most likes wins.
  • “You’ve Been Pied,” noon. For $1, enter for a chance to throw a whipped cream pie at the nominated faculty, employee or student of your choice. Funds go to the Student Senate Scholarship Fund. (Nominations will be taken from Oct. 14-17 and donations from Oct. 21-31.) Note: You must be present at noon to pie.
  • Music from Montez at KISS-FM (96.1).
  • Localmotive Food Truck on site (cash only).
  • Photo booth pictures — north entrance of the Sorrell Center, second floor.
  • Wear UNMC spirit week gear.
