The UNMC Department of International Health and Medical Education and the Student Alliance for Global Health will sponsor the 6th Midwestern Global Health Conference from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 7.
The event’s theme is “Global Health is Local Health,” and it will feature an array of presentations by UNMC faculty, staff, and students. In addition, the award-winning documentary “Walk To Beautiful,” which highlights the devastating effects of obstetric fistula on women from underdeveloped countries, will be shown.
The keynote address will be presented by UNMC first-year medical student Suresh Pavuluri, speaking on “From Nuremberg to Guantanamo: Accountability of Dr. Death and Treatment of Victims of Torture.”
Pavuluri, who migrated from his native India about 10 years ago, has accumulated an impressive resume, including work with nonprofit agencies focusing on human rights. Through the University of Minnesota, where he did his undergraduate work, Pavuluri is featured on a TED Talk that addresses medical mission trips.
