Sixty-two students in UNMC’s Division of Radiation Science Technology Education (RSTE) recently participated in the division’s first pinning ceremony.

“The ceremony was a huge success,” said James Temme, associate director of the RSTE division. “Parents were impressed at what is being done at the medical center and the students appreciated the formal introduction to the field of radiation sciences.”

More than 250 people attended the Sept. 14 event in the Storz Pavilion.

During the ceremony, which focused on professionalism, students received a circular, red RSTE pin, which symbolizes the student’s dedication to the highest principles of respect, competency, service and integrity.

UNMC graduate Ann Twarling of The Nebraska Medical Center emphasized the importance of patient respect and confidentiality. Mary Haven, associate dean of the School of Allied Health Professions, gave an overview of the SAHP program. Students also recited an oath to emphasize the high standards expected of them as they care for patients during their clinical assignments.

“The pinning ceremony was a wonderful opportunity for students and their families to meet our faculty and become more familiar with our campus,” Temme said. “We look forward to next year’s ceremony.”

The RSTE division includes the following programs: diagnostic medical sonography; nuclear medicine; radiography; radiation therapy; CT/MRI; and cardiovascular interventional technology.
