AMA president-elect on campus Sept. 24

picture disc.The president-elect of the American Medical Association will speak at UNMC on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

John Nelson, M.D., an obstetrician-gynecologist from Salt Lake City, Utah, will speak at noon in the Wittson Hall Amphitheater, with overflow room available in Eppley Room 2009.

His hour-long presentation will focus on the future of medicine as he foresees it, as well as the role that the AMA will have in that future. He also hopes to have the opportunity to receive input from the students, residents and faculty. Food and beverages will be provided to all students, residents and faculty.

Dr. Nelson was elected AMA president-elect in June 2003. Dr. Nelson was elected to the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Board of Trustees in 1994 and re-elected for second and third terms in 1997 and 2001. Dr. Nelson served most recently as secretary-treasurer of the AMA since June 2002, and has been a member of the Board’s Executive Committee since 1998. Over the past nine years on the AMA Board of Trustees he has served in many capacities, most recently on the Audit Committee, Finance Committee, Task Force on Fraud and Abuse and as a spokesperson for AMA’s anti-violence activities.
