Seven Doctors Project IX will present a reading by its current participants and faculty on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at Slowdown, 729 N. 14th Street in Omaha.

Lydia Kang, M.D., a longtime member of Seven Doctors Project, first as a participant and then faculty member, will also present. Kang’s young-adult science fiction novel “Control” (Dial/Penguin) is being released today. The sequel, “Catalyst” (Kathy Dawson Books/Penguin), arrives in winter 2014. Her debut novel will be available at the reading, and Dr. Kang will sign copies.

The Seven Doctors Project is a creative writing workshop led by area writers and designed for physicians, healthcare workers and community members. It was formed by author and teacher Steve Langan at UNMC in 2008. During the event, 7DP IX members will present poems, stories and essays they composed during the recent ten-week session.

The reading also serves as a fundraiser for Seven Doctors Project. In addition to brief readings from the 13 members of Seven Doctors Project, there will be a guest musician.

Seven Doctors Project is currently a program under the Nebraska Writers Collective, a 501(c)(3). Over 100 participants, 30 of whom are area physicians, have participated in 7DP during the last five years.
