Ira Combs to speak at lunch honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

Ira Combs, community liaison nurse coordinator for the Center for Reducing Health Disparities at UNMC’s College of Public Health, will speak Jan. 20 at the annual luncheon to honor Martin Luther King Jr. The noon presentation will be in the Lower Storz Pavilion.

Combs serves as a liaison with the African-American community developing relationships and facilitating health care services aimed primarily at screening and interventions for minority and the underserved population. Among other achievements, Combs recently received the “Champion of Change Award” from the White House for his work in health prevention and education.

He will speak on the topic “King, Health Care and his Letter From the Birmingham Jail.”

The event is free to employees and the public

Entertainment will be provided during the luncheon by musicians Nate Asad and Bill Foeman Quartey.
