Molly (Handke) Belieu
Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Molly (Handke) Belieu
  • Hometown: Omaha (Millard)
  • No. of years at UNMC: Two years this coming March. Prior to that, I worked at UNO and have been part of the Nebraska system for almost seven years.

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.

I’m the coordinator of undergraduate student services for the College of Nursing – Omaha campus. I love my role because I get to work with the entire student process from start to finish -recruiting and admitting students, orienting them to our college, helping them throughout their time here with enrollment and student success, and getting them ready for and planning their graduation.

Leadership is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell of a time you witnessed a person or group demonstrate leadership at UNMC.

I witness leadership not only among our amazing administrators, faculty, and staff, but also within our students, who selflessly take the time to give back to our college and the community. We recently hosted a College of Nursing Showcase Event attended by 180 prospective students and their parents. This event would not have been a success without the 20 current students who volunteered their time. As group leaders, students took on the role of showing off our college and explaining their pathways to becoming a nursing student here at UNMC. Their leadership allows us to share our college’s story and continue getting the word out about our fantastic programs.

What’s your favorite winter activity?
Anything involving holidays. I love Thanksgiving and Christmas, especially spending time with friends and family, decorating for the holidays and watching holiday movies. When at all possible, I love bundling up and going outside for a run if it is not too cold!

List three things people may not know about you.

  • My husband David and I got married in July of 2012 on Friday the 13th.
  • I have run three half marathons, but my goal is to someday run a full marathon.
  • I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in educational leadership at UNL. I have an undergraduate degree from Creighton University in psychology and communication studies, and a master’s in educational administration from UNL. I am an avid sports fan and love to cheer on both of my schools – Go Huskers, Go Bluejays!
