New interpretive technology offered

The Nebraska Medical Center is using a new technology to communicate instantly with deaf patients.

In the past, communication with a deaf patient was challenging. Staff and patients had to wait for an interpreter to arrive on-site for ER visits, inpatient stays, same day consults or other tasks. With the new technology, Cyracom, interpretive services can be accessed instantly via a web cam.

All inpatient units and clinics are encouraged to designate a computer/laptop with a web cam to provide instant access to the deaf consumer without delays in services when an on-site interpreter is not available. Currently, there is no charge to the unit for using this service.

Please contact Flower Nunez, the lead interpreter at The Nebraska Medical Center, at 402-559-2010 for more information on how to access this service.

We would like assistance with translation of an informed consent document and educational materials (videos) for a research study. Is this something that would be possible through your office.
