UNMC’s fall enrollment grows

UNMC reported a 1.6 percent increase in its headcount enrollment for fall 2003. Overall, 2,865 students enrolled at UNMC, compared to 2,819 last fall.

Overall, UNMC enrolled 742 undergraduate students, or 43 more than last fall, marking the largest increase in all programs. UNMC has grown steadily since fall 1999, when 2,590 students were enrolled.

Enrollments across the university system

Headcount enrollment figures for fall 2003 at the University of Nebraska appear to reflect changes in the state and national economy as well as international tensions. The NU enrollment decline of 1.8 percent is consistent with reports from other major universities. While national data are still being compiled, many institutions have reported enrollments that show only marginal increases or decreases compared to last fall. Other universities that have reported fall enrollments recently include:

  • Purdue, +0.6 percent
  • University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign, +1.6 percent
  • University of Illinois – Chicago, – 1.8 percent
  • Iowa State University, – 1.9 percent
  • University of Iowa, + 0.2 percent

Enrollment at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln declined by 1.9 percent. UNMC’s enrollment increased by 1.6 percent. The University of Nebraska at Omaha experienced a 3.1 percent decline, while the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s enrollment declined by 0.3 percent.
