Dr. Romero honored for community work

Jose Romero, M.D., recently received one of the 2003 Hispanic/Latino on the Move awards for his contributions to the Omaha community. Dr. Romero and eight others were honored Friday at City Hall for their contributions to the arts, education, business, youth and community.

Dr. Romero is associate professor, UNMC pediatrics and pathology/microbiology; director of the UNMC/Creighton University combined division of pediatric infectious diseases; and the chief Latino recruitment officer for UNMC. He is involved with numerous agencies including serving as president of the Chicano Awareness Center. In addition, he has served as the KETV Channel 7 Health Watch physician since November 2001.

Dr. Romero joined UNMC in 1993. His clinical and research interests have focused on enteroviruses, specifically coxsackievirus and myocarditis.
