Engaging in physical activity everyday has a powerful and positive impact on an individual’s health now and in the future. The benefits of leading an active life are unbelievable, and include:

  • Increasing your chance of living longer.
  • Sleeping better at night.
  • Getting to or staying at a healthy weight.
  • Having stronger muscles and bones.
  • Being with friends and meeting new people.
  • Reducing the risk of becoming depressed.
  • Being in shape so you have a higher level of stamina.
  • Enjoying yourself and having fun.

Speaking of enjoying yourself: See sidebar at right for upcoming Zumba activities.

Establishing a lifelong habit of physical activity ensures that you can enjoy these benefits and many more. UNMC’s newest wellness incentive campaign, Everybody. Everyday. aims to inspire individuals to be physically active on a regular basis. And all members of the UNMC community are officially invited to enroll in this unique wellness challenge,

A six-week campaign, Everybody. Everyday. will begin on March 31. It challenges participants to establish a routine of intentionally scheduling activity into each week. In our modern high-tech world physical activity is no longer automatic. It has become optional. Being physically active requires a conscious choice and a commitment to move. Creating a plan to move more and sit less is the goal.

The best thing about this challenge? You pick the activity, how long you want to exercise, how hard you want to exercise and when. The emphasis is placed simply on planning a weekly schedule and establishing a frequency of exercising most days of the week.

Along the way, several key pillars of successful behavior change are introduced to further support your efforts to be active daily. A kickoff event will be held March 20, and people who sign up by or on that date will receive exercise bands. All individuals who successfully complete the challenge take home a UNMC Everybody. Everyday. Camelbak waterbottle and have a chance to win a pair of athletic shoes or a balance ball chair in a grand prize drawing.
