Throughout the month of April, the human resources-benefits department will offer a series of lunchtime presentations on retirement readiness.
All sessions will run from noon to 1 p.m. Sessions will include:
April 2: “So I’m Retired – Now What?”
Durham Research Center, Room 1005
Marlene Schneider of the UNMC Faculty/Employee Assistance Program will discuss the many non-financial issues to consider when planning for retirement. This course will concentrate on the tasks that are suggested for a successful retirement. Program objectives include:
- understanding the phases of retirement.
- discovering the keys to a successful retirement.
- exploring the challenges of retirement.
April 9: “Navigating the New Health Care Law”
College of Nursing, Room 1010
Matthew Leonard of Blue Cross Blue Shield will give a general overview of the new health care law and answer questions, including how the law might affect retirees, finding the actual costs, COBRA as an option, and other issues.
April 14: “Getting Ready for Retirement”
Sorrell Center, Room 4053
Teresa Cobucci, a TIAA/CREF representative, will speak about income options and issues, including:
- simplifying retirement income.
- rules governing the most common retirement accounts.
- tapping into different assets.
- other issues.
April 22: “Fundamentals of Retirement Income Planning”
Eppley Science Hall, Room 3010
Jason Cronick of Fidelity Investments will discuss planning fundamentals, including building retirement income strategies, investing and other topics.
April 24: “Wills, Living Wills, Trusts”
University Hospital, Room 4208
Amy Longo of Ellick, Jones, Buelt, Blazek, and Longo will discuss issues regarding wills, living wills and trusts and answer questions regarding planning for medical care decisions and other topics. (Room 4028 cannot be accessed from the Wittson Hall elevator. Take the University Tower elevator up to adult intensive care. Turn right and continue to PICU. The room is on the left under the PICU sign.)
April 30: “Your Medicare and Supplemental Plans in Plain English”
Durham Research Center, Room 1005
A representative of Volunteers Assisting Seniors will discuss Medicare options, including a discussion of Medicare’s five components, enrollment information and other issues.
Registration is required. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch. Sessions cannot be recorded or broadcast. No additional sessions will be given. To register, log on to UNMC Employee Services, click on the Education tab, then on Event Registration. The registration deadline is March 26.
