UNMC students to host a festival of colors

UNMC will host a Holi celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 5 at the student plaza, between the Hope Tower and the UNMC ice rink.

Preferred dress code for the UNMC event is a white T-shirt, and organizers are telling visitors to “prepare to get colored.”

The Holi festival is a Hindu spring festival, celebrated in India and becoming popular internationally, that symbolizes rejuvenation and optimism. People toss colors on each other as a way to wash away the gloom of winter.

The event will include Indian snacks, music, game and prizes. As a fund-raiser for the Ronald McDonald House, a Kindle Fire will be raffled off.

Sponsors for the event include the Student Senate, UNMC Graduate Studies, UNMC Academic Affairs and the Graduate Student Association, as well as personal donations. Food and drink sponsors include Flavors, Maharala, Kurry Express, Namaste Groceries and Sodexo.
