The UNMC College of Nursing received Board of Regents approval on Friday to reorganize the college’s organizational structure in Omaha. The change creates a single division in the college to replace three departments.
The Community-Based Health, Families and Health Systems, and Adult Health and Illness departments will be replaced by a single division in Omaha, to be called the Omaha Division.
The change will increase efficiency and promote faculty collaboration around research and curricular enhancements, said Juliann Sebastian, Ph.D., dean of the UNMC College of Nursing.
“The structure will support and enhance the work we do in an era of increased emphasis on collaboration and teamwork,” Dr. Sebastian said. “Greater focus will be placed on comprehensive clinical care models, interprofessional education, population health management, team-based practice and team science. These all require innovative collaborative organizational structures that are flexible and nimble.”
The reorganization also will bring in line a structure parallel to the college’s four other divisions in Lincoln, Kearney, Scottsbluff and Norfolk and reflects a national trend toward collaborative structures at peer nursing programs.
