Chancellor meets with community leaders

Around 50 people turned out for a community reception held in honor of new UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., April 2 at the Love’s Jazz & Arts Center near 24th and Lake streets.

The chancellor was warmly introduced by Sherri Nared, president of the North Omaha Community Care Council (NOCCC), which hosted the event.

Faith leaders, business owners and community members listened as Dr. Gold described his desire to work together to build healthier communities in north Omaha.

Dr. Gold said he was impressed with the warmth of his reception in North Omaha and other communities since his arrival.

He added that he was ready to work with community leaders to develop partnerships to improve health and well-being.

“The health of the North Omaha community is important to me and to UNMC,” he said.

“I’m impressed,” said Carolyn Green, of Girls Inc. “He’s very down to earth and willing to work together.”
