Associate Vice Chancellor for Research

The University of Nebraska Medical Center invites applications of current University of Nebraska faculty for the position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Research. This position will assist the Vice Chancellor of Research (VCR) in the management, administration and growth of all research activities within the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Responsibilities would include:
Act as back-up VCR to assure continuity and quality of VCR programs; arrange, organize, conduct and attend meetings with university personnel, advisory groups and others on behalf of the VCR; ensure that accurate, current information is supplied to journalists for press releases and announcements regarding activities / accomplishments of the university research enterprise.

Position incumbent is also responsible for:

Laboratory Resources:


  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a long-term program for tracking and evaluating UNMC laboratory resources (space, equipment, research core laboratories).
  • Measure the impact of resource distribution upon progress toward UNMC research strategic goals.

Strategic Planning:


  • Assist in tracking and updating the Research Strategic Plan.
  • Identify criteria and develop methods for evaluating the progress of the UNMC institutional research enterprise.
  • Develop recommendations for modifications / updates of the research strategic plan

Research Development:


  • Identify and inform university researchers of opportunities for funding in areas matching UNMC strategic goals.
  • Foster and maintain a working relationship with local, state and federal elected officials.
  • Assist Sponsored Programs Administration & Comparative Medicine with understanding & interpreting guidelines, rules & regulation.

REQUIREMENTS: Doctoral Degree in science or in a relevant medical field (e.g., MD, DO, DMD, DVM). Possess experience in research, research-related writing & publishing research results. Ability to evaluate, analyze, present and criticize data. Must demonstrate a commitment to full-time administration in the office of the UNMC vice-chancellor for research and have well-developed interpersonal and communications skills.

USEFUL EXPERIENCE would include technology transfer, translational research, patenting, biotech product development; grants authorship and grant proposal reviews; academic or other relevant strategic planning; relevant interaction with government agencies, local / state / federal elected officials and their staffs, interaction with university central administration.
