Business & Finance announces TEAM Excellence Awards

UNMC’s Graphic Arts team and Control and Refrigeration Shop were the recipients of this year’s Team Excellence and Merit Awards (T.E.A.M.) from UNMC Business and Finance.

The groups were recognized for their involvement with the Durham Research Center.
The graphic arts team received the award for completing their largest combined projects for the Durham Research Center events, which included printed materials for a donor dinner, researcher dinner, campus open house and public open house.

“The impact of these events was greatly enhanced by the high quality design and printed materials supplied by the Graphic Arts Team,” the nominator said. “The quality of these items projects the high degree of excellence that can be found at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.”

The team designed and produced materials including a 3-dimensional pop-up invitation, donor dinner and research dinner invitation, RSVP cards and envelopes, “save the date” post cards, a T-shirt design, street banners, magazine ads, calendar posters, cover design and supporting artwork for the Omaha World Herald supplement, video clip images, press kits and flyers.

The graphic arts team consists of Whit Caughlan, Joe Edwards, Lori Fuller, Jolene Gulizia, Kevin Kliewer, Ed Meirs, Marv Vallier and Bill Wassom.

UNMC’s Controls and Refrigeration Shop typically works in a new building after the contractors finish construction, but “The Durham Research Center marked a change in that routine,” their nominator said. “For the first time, a facilities shop worked as a sub-contractor on a major capital new construction project.”

Controls and Refrigeration Shop employees took on the daunting task of providing, installing and commissioning the temperature controls. They also built automation and card access systems.

The team consists of John Larson, Ken Anderson, Phillip Edwards, Sue Harder, Art Malenfant, Don Obara, Dave Payton, Ron Powell, Don Strong, Leroy Tate, Jim Weiss, Phillip Sayles and Kyle Hammit.

In each case, nominators said, the workload and commitment to success was in addition to their regular workload. Employees responded with teamwork and cooperation to accomplish the tasks, their nominators said.
