The Team Kaos cycling team, of which UNMC and The Nebraska Medical Center are title sponsors, has made a $1,500 donation to the Dave Babcook Memorial Fund. The memorial fund is used for pancreatic cancer research at the Eppley Institute for Research in Cancer and Allied Diseases.

Team Kaos President Marco Vasquez and representative Bud Shaw, M.D. made the check presentation on Dec. 19 to Ken Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., director of the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center.

Babcook was an Eppley Institute employee and bicycle racer until his death in 1998 from pancreatic cancer. His family established the fund in his memory and returns from Colorado every year for a day of racing that is put on in his memory. In addition to being title sponsors for Team Kaos, The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC are annual sponsors of the Dave Babcook Memorial Race.

Team Kaos is Nebraska’s leading competitive cycling organization. In 2003, the club organized or co-promoted 10 races in Nebraska, conducted bicycle safety clinics for more than 600 children and donated nearly $2,000 in cash and merchandise to individuals and organizations.
