Dr. Sorrell to be honored at NFR luncheon

picture disc.Nebraskans for Research will honor UNMC’s Michael Sorrell, M.D., chief of gastroenterology and hepatology, medical director of the Liver Transplant Program and Robert L. Grissom, M.D., Professor of Medicine, at the annual Tribute to Research luncheon on Monday, April 26. The luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Happy Hollow Club.

Dr. Sorrell is being honored for his contributions to and support of research. Dr. Sorrell has received international recognition for his research in liver disease. During his nearly 45-year medical career, he has been named one of “America’s Top Doctors” and “Best Doctors in America” in those national guides.

In addition to his own research, Dr. Sorrell has fostered the growth of many young scientists. He has been funded continuously for the past 30 years by the National Institutes of Health and the Veterans Administration. He has published more than 200 papers, edited five books, is a member of more than 20 professional organizations and has served as president of several of them, including the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and the International Liver Transplant Society.

Nebraskans for Research is a not-for-profit, membership-supported public education and advocacy organization.
