Sick Call to treat employee’s minor ailments

Effective Monday, March 29, regular UNMC employees will be eligible for Sick Call at Employee Health at The Nebraska Medical Center. Sick Call is a service that allows an employee to be seen by a healthcare provider at Employee Health and to receive a prescription or treatment as required.

Employees may use Sick Call for acute minor health complaints or other ailments that can be resolved in one visit, including but not limited to:

  • Upper respiratory infection
  • Colds
  • Earaches
  • Headaches
  • Sinus/sore throat
  • Urinary Tract Infection

“UNMC employees will find the new service efficient, convenient and cost-effective,” said Jane Harris, director of UNMC Human Resources-Employee Relations. “It does not take the place of the employee’s regular health care provider, but is meant to provide relief to minor ailments.”

The service cannot be used for chronic conditions.

Sick Call requires a $10 cash payment (no large bills) or $10 check at the time of the visit. The $10 Sick Call payment cannot be billed to insurance but may be submitted to the health reimbursement account. If lab work is required, the employee must have insurance; Employee Health will bill the insurance company for lab work.

Employees should call ahead to schedule an appointment at 402/552-3563, but Employee Health will accept walk-ins. Employee Health is in Clarkson Tower, just inside the main entrance. Sick Call will be available during their regular hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Sick Call will not be used to excuse employees from the workplace and is intended to treat the employee while at work, if appropriate. An employee’s “sick leave” may be used for scheduled Sick Call appointments. A current UNMC photo ID will be required for employees at check-in.

Questions about Sick Call should be directed to UNMC Human Resources – Employee Relations at 559-5827 or to Employee Health at 552-3563.
