Toby Jurovics, Joslyn’s chief curator and Holland Curator of American Western Art, will host an art talk and brown bag lunch at noon on Tuesday, June 10, in the Sorrell Center, Room 4053.

Jurovics will present an overview of the exhibition “Yellowstone and the West: The Chromolithographs of Thomas Moran,” which will be on display at the Joslyn from June 7 to Sept. 7. Born in England, Moran (1837-1926) is considered to be one of the premier painters of the American landscape. He especially loved painting scenes in the Rocky Mountains.

In 1876, Louis Prang, an American printer, lithographer and publisher (1824-1909), published a portfolio of 15 chromolithographs of watercolors done by Moran. Released to coincide with the nation’s centennial, this was one of the first illustrated publications about the West to be printed in color, helping to transform our understanding of the region from an unfamiliar wilderness to a central part of our national identity.

Join Jurovics for an in-depth discussion of this exciting exhibition.

RSVPs are requested. If you are planning to attend, please email the events coordinator.
