Kaleidoscope sets attendance, fund-raising records

A record number of people raised a record amount of money at this year’s Kaleidoscope, an annual fund-raiser used by the University Hospital Auxiliary to support programs that benefit patients and families at The Nebraska Medical Center, the hospital partner of UNMC.

Net proceeds from this year’s Kaleidoscope totaled more than $170,000, setting a new all-time fund raising record for the event, said Jean Stothert, Kaleidoscope co-chairperson.

This year’s Kaleidoscope also set a new attendance record. Nearly 750 people attended the “Sunset Fiesta” themed event, held April 3 at the Qwest Center Omaha.

Money raised at this year’s Kaleidoscope will go toward a project designed to make The Nebraska Medical Center’s pediatric unit more homey and comfortable. Called “It’s Almost Like Home,” the project will make pediatric patient rooms more child-friendly by adding special touches such as colorful paint, new lighting and window coverings.

“The University Hospital Auxiliary is proud to be part of this project,” said Chris Shaw, Kaleidoscope co-chairperson. “The Nebraska Medical Center cares for hundreds of children, and by funding ‘Almost Like Home,’ we’re able to offer patients and their families some comfort at a difficult time.”
