Work to continue at 45th and Emile streets

Due to unforeseen conditions, some of the Metropolitan Utilities District (M.U.D) work dates have shifted at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center project site.

Most of the remaining public utility work scheduled by M.U.D. is concentrated on Emile and 45th Streets and will likely add congestion to the area for the next few weeks. Please continue to adhere to modified pedestrian pathways and traffic signage.

Beginning the week of Aug. 11, M.U.D will complete final utility tie-ins to the existing campus infrastructure, impacting the traffic patterns of patients, faculty, staff and students along Emile Street. Work will take place in front of the Durham Outpatient Center circle drive and involve vehicular lane restrictions along Emile Street.

During this time, vehicles exiting the circle drive will be required to turn east (left). Pedestrians will be required to use the Emile Street pedestrian walkway between Lot 50 and the Durham Outpatient Center, shifted just east of its current location as a result of the work. Depending on weather conditions and testing results, work in this area may extend into the week of Aug. 18.

During this time, access to and from Green/Lot 2 Visitor Parking and Lot 50 Employee parking will be maintained. Throughout construction, drivers and pedestrians are asked to exercise extreme caution and pay attention to posted signage, as lane restrictions and traffic direction changes will be ongoing.
