Dates and topics are set for the UNMC Human Resources Department’s 2014 Learn@ Lunch Series.

The series, entitled “Do Something Different . . . For a Change: Employee Engagement, Resiliency and Trust in the Workplace,” will begin Sept. 10.

The presentations will include:

Sept. 10: Thriving Through Change

  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Lower Storz Pavilion

National author and consultant Scott Carbonara will speak about how to engage during change to provide effective leadership no matter what challenges and transitions are encountered. People look around themselves for answers when the ground starts to shake from the latest implementation, funding crisis, or government mandate. Are you prepared to engage yourself – and then engage others – so you can succeed regardless of any obstacle? Learn some key lessons found in positive psychology about how to engage by investing in the people-side of change.

Caren Houlton-Dean
Oct. 23: Building Resilient Work Environments

  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Durham Research Center Auditorium

Consultant Caren Houlton-Dean will discuss the Resiliency Model, with its individual, management and organizational factors, and how increased resiliency enables organizations to achieve its core objectives regardless of conditions. You will learn how positive workplace relationships lead to higher levels of engagement, higher levels of productivity and fewer issues of conflict and turnover. Hear why resiliency is crucial to building a strong workplace environment and why resilient workers are fast, friendly, flexible and focused. Building a strong, resilient workplace requires consistent commitment.

Nov. 18: A Fearless Workplace

  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Durham Research Center Auditorium

Peggy Noll, executive vice president of Noll Human Resources, will discuss creating an organizational culture based on trust by changing macro and micro behaviors that create a culture of fear to those that create a culture of trust. Take The Fearless Workplace test to determine where your organization falls on a 10-point scale of fear to trust.
