Elise Balaban

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Elise Balaban
  • Hometown: Omaha
  • No. of years at UNMC: 10

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
I work as a medical transcriptionist in orthopaedic surgery and assist in other general clerical duties as well. However, I am currently transitioning into the role of office assistant since we recently added on two new faculty members, Philipp Streubel, M.D., and Justin Siebler, M.D. It is far from what I am used to, but I am definitely excited and ready for the change.

Being a trusted resource is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group act as a trusted resource at UNMC.
The first thing that comes to mind are all of my awesome co-workers whom I trust wholeheartedly with helping train me for my new role. Outside of that, you constantly see people all over campus helping patients/visitors and I feel very fortunate to be a part of the UNMC family!

What is your favorite fall activity?
No question about it, my favorite fall activity is camping and bonfires with family and friends! Halloween festivities are definitely right up there too!

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I attended nine schools in 12 years — all in the Omaha area – crazy I know! P.S. I swear it wasn’t due to my behavior, we just moved around a lot.
  • As a child, I actually wanted to grow up and be a marine biologist. As an adult, I am terrified of all water creatures.
  • My mother got my first name from the movie “Somewhere In Time” — Jane Seymour’s name was Elise McKenna.
