“From Excellence to Eminence” will be the theme for today’s installation of the eighth chancellor of UNMC, Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.

Members of the university community, Omaha city leaders, UNMC partners and others will celebrate Dr. Gold’s installation Friday with a formal public ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the Joslyn Art Museum and campus reception at 2:30 p.m.

The ceremony at the Joslyn also will be live-streamed here beginning shortly before 10:30 a.m.

Interim University of Nebraska President James Linder, M.D., will preside over the ceremony and make remarks. The keynote speaker is James B. Milliken, president emeritus of the University of Nebraska. Dr. Gold also will make remarks.

Tweets from the investiture can be found under the hashtag #unmcgold.

The campus is encouraged to attend a campus reception at 2:30 p.m. today on the Scott Student Plaza. Refreshments will be provided, and Dr. Gold will make remarks at 3 p.m.

In the event of rain, the reception will be held in the Truhlsen Campus Events Center in the Sorrell Center.

Dr. Gold, a nationally recognized leader and advocate for transforming academic medical education, became UNMC chancellor on Feb. 1.

As UNMC’s chief executive officer, Dr. Gold is responsible for all aspects of campus administration, including an annual operating budget of more than $640 million, a staff of about 5,000 and a student body of nearly 3,700.

Dr. Gold succeeds Chancellor Emeritus Harold M. Maurer, M.D., who served from 1998 to 2014.
