Campus Safety month: Title IX

This week during Campus Safety Awareness Month, the focus will be on sexual violence and the resources available for people seeking help and healing through resources provided under Title IX.

The week’s event will include:

Today: There will be tables from noon to 1 p.m. at the Durham Research Center and the Sorrell Center, featuring informational brochures and information on upcoming speakers. Members of the student group EMPOWER will be on hand to discuss issues of sexual violence and how to access help and healing.

Wednesday: Anne Boatright of Methodist Hospital will give a Learn@Lunch presentation from noon to 1 p.m. in the Sorrell Center, Room 1005, on “Caring Examination in a Safe Environment: Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) & Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Program.” The discussion will include care provided during examination, preparing survivors for the days and months that follow their assault, and the education and training required to become a SANE and be part of a SART. There will be a free lunch for the first 50 attendees.

Thursday: A representative from the Women’s Center for Advancement will speak on the topic “Critical Help at Critical Times” from noon to 1 p.m. at the Sorrell Center, Room 2018. The presentation will discuss the role of an advocate, what advocacy services are, and an overview of the services offered to the Women’s Center for Advancement. There will be free popcorn and M&Ms.
