UNMC is currently taking part in the 2014 United Way Campaign. Each week during the campaign, we will feature a member of the UNMC community who is a United Way supporter.

Today, we meet:

  • Name: Sarah Swanson
  • Department: Munroe-Meyer Institute’s Family Support Program

Favorite United Way community partners:

Although I leave my United Way donation undesignated, so that the organization can allocate my gift to the causes they see fit, three UW community partners I particularly admire are:

  • Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Midlands
  • Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
  • Habitat for Humanity

The running total

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, UNMC achieved:

  • Donations of $110,860, nearly 74 percent of the campaign goal of $150,000.
  • Employee participation of 29 percent. This year’s employee participation goal is 50 percent. Remember, using the UNMC eServ website to choose not to donate counts as participation, and all participants will be entered in the final drawing on Oct. 3!

I support the United Way because:
The United Way has a significant impact on my community. Every day, I recognize that there are individuals and families who do not have food or cannot pay their bills. The United Way works to support community partners to provide these services. In addition, the United Way has provided funding through its Karnett Trust grant to support Munroe-Meyer’s “Autism Care of Toddlers” clinic which provides early intervention services to children who have autism and supports training for their families.

Through its support, the United Way can significantly change the outcomes for individuals and families. I am glad to know that I am part of that.
