October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. EMPOWER, a legacy program of the College of Public Health, Service Learning Academy, is requesting UNMC students, faculty and staff to mark the month by donating any men’s or women’s shoes that are still in good condition. The shoes will go to individuals who have been affected by domestic violence.

Donations can be placed in boxes in the College of Nursing second floor commons, the Center for Nursing Science third floor atrium, the College of Pharmacy second floor between elevators, the College of Public Health second floor commons, and the Sorrell Center area between the C-Store and the food vendor. Donations will be accepted until Friday, Oct. 3.

EMPOWER’s mission is to provide education and basic health screenings through collaboration with community partners, empowering those affected by domestic violence and poverty through knowledge of their personal health and to educate students, providers, and community members and raise awareness regarding violence against women.

This community-campus partnership is sustained through UNMC student leadership and the Women’s Center for Advancement (WCA).
