Our new brand: What you need to know

In some cases, branding will change overnight. In others, it will take longer or be done in phases. Please prioritize — based on audience, budgets and visibility — what needs to be changed immediately and what can subsequently be done. Consult with UNMC Public Relations as needed.

Existing supplies — We realize you may have brochures, flyers and other items with the now defunct UNMC logo. When possible, departments/colleges are encouraged to use existing supplies through the fiscal year ending June 30, 2015, and update the brand as supplies are replaced. All print references to the old icon (or any icons prior to 2009) should be eliminated by Aug. 1, 2015. Please consider recycling items that are being discarded.

Rental items — UNMC Public Relations has a limited number of newly branded items (tableclothes, table runners, pop-up banners, etc.) available for free campus checkout on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact UNMC Public Relations for more information and availability.

Branding website — For all things branding, please refer to the UNMC Brand Wise site at http://brandwise.unmc.edu/. Here, you will find newly branded Powerpoint, flyers and scientific poster templates – more will be added in the coming days and weeks. Requests to use the UNMC emblem for external use — merchandise, apparel and print products — must be made through UNMC Public Relations, per the form on the Brand Wise website unless the project is coordinated through UNMC Printing Services, which also is authorized to use the emblem. Requests for brochure and newsletter templates must go through UNMC Printing Services to ensure the quality and integrity of the brand is upheld.

Use of UNMC emblem — Requests to use the emblem and/or the UNMC tagline “Breakthroughs for Life.” for external purposes must be made through UNMC Public Relations. UNMC Printing Services is authorized to use the emblem/tagline on print items. The emblem and tagline are registered with the U.S. Trade and Patent Office so, to guarantee proper use, all orders for merchandise and apparel must be reviewed and approved by UNMC Public Relations. Please allow adequate notice in the event that designs need to be revised.

Lab coats — New lab coats will not be available through the UNMC Bookstore until Jan. 1, 2015. Faculty should continue to use their existing lab coats until more information is provided. NOTE: Students may continue to use their existing lab coats until they graduate; they will not be expected to buy coats that meet the new brand guidelines.

Identification badges — Faculty, staff and students of UNMC and Nebraska Medicine will continue to use their existing identification badges until new badges are issued. No changes are anticipated until at least December. Watch the campus newsletters for more information.

Letterhead, envelopes, business cards — As part of the University of Nebraska system, UNMC must continue to comply with NU brand standards. As a result, UNMC will continue to use the wordmark logo on its business cards, letterhead and other printed materials. NOTE: The pantone color within the wordmark, however, has changed to PMS187 (it was formerly PMS186). Printing Services has the new letterhead, with a watermark of the new emblem, for sale.
