ID card changes will take time

With the announcement of the new Nebraska Medicine brand and UNMC/Nebraska Medicine emblem, discussions are taking place regarding new photo ID cards.

Both the look and the content are being reviewed, as well as the manner in which this new card will be rolled out.

New cards are not expected to be available before December at the earliest. A posting will be made on the Intranet and in UNMC Today detailing when and how the new photo ID cards will be available.

“It is very important to care for your current PhotoID card as we go through the transition to the Nebraska Medicine card,” said Dave Richardson, photo ID card and access manager at Nebraska Medicine. “The PhotoID Office has seen a sharp increase in the number of damaged ID cards.”

The damage is often caused by punctures from the new Nebraska Medicine/UNMC icon pins. The majority of the time when the ID Card is punctured by something like a pin, the proximity access on the card is disabled and the only means of restoring the access is by replacing the badge, Richardson said.

Please do not put the new Nebraska Medicine/UNMC icon pins (or any pins) onto your PhotoID. Your lanyard or badge clip is a safer alternative if you choose to display the new pin near your badge.

If you have changes for your PhotoID (name, credential, etc), if at all possible please consider waiting for the new PhotoID to be released before replacing your current badge.

How about doing the new icon as stickers so that employees can cover up the wings until replacement?

Ironic that the logo at the top of this page is still the old logo.
