Lookin’ at U – Megan Williams

Megan Williams

Megan Williams

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Megan Williams
  • Hometown: Born in Little Rock, Ark., but have lived in Nebraska for 10 years.
  • No. of years at UNMC: Three years

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.

I work in at the UNMC Bookstore/Parking and am one of the main cashiers in the store. Along with helping each customer, I oversee the lab coat process and update the UNMC Bookstore website and Facebook page. Recently, I took on the job of coordinating and organizing for UNMC the “Back To School” program that happens every year with Channel 7 News to raise school supplies for kids.

“Being a trusted resource” is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us about a person or group you consider a “trusted resource” at UNMC.

I had the opportunity to work at the UNMC day care and believe this group is a trusted resource. They strive every day to make a difference in each child’s life. Being a day care teacher involves more than just watching kids. In addition to making sure the children are safe, a day care teacher is responsible for their health, development, nutrition and education.

What is your favorite fall activity?

During the fall, I love to take my daughter to the pumpkin patch and pick out big pumpkins to carve. Crawling up on the couch, drinking hot chocolate and watching my favorite fall TV shows is another thing that I look forward to doing every time the fall season rolls around.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I’m a big sports fan. My favorite NFL team is the Dallas Cowboys. My favorite college football team is the Arkansas Razorbacks, and my favorite NBA team is the Chicago Bulls.
  • I’m graduating in March with my bachelor’s degree in social work. Providing resources and the assurance of trust to children and families that are in need is my true passion. I plan on being the type of social worker who really goes above and beyond to help my clients and make a difference in their lives.
  • I’m a very laidback type of girl, who enjoys relaxing on the couch, watching Netflix and eating pizza on the weekends.

Go Razorbacks! Just another example of excellence gravitating to UNMC. Megan is at a key intersection to meet and make an impression with her role in the bookstore and parking. The coordination of the lab coat process is key to our students. With the advanced degree in social work the community is sure to reap continued benefits from Megan's gifts, talents and willingness to serve others. Razorback Dad so still a fan of the good things from Arkansas.
Thank you for sharing about Megan. Sincerely,
    Karen Anderson

Megan, I am late to the party here, but I had to chime in. It is great to see your gracious spirit and dedicated work ethic highlighted on UNMC Today. I miss seeing you at the Child Development Center, but clearly you are doing a fantastic job at the Bookstore. Way to go!
