NU presidential candidate to visit Dec. 10

Michael Martin, Ph.D., is one of four finalists for the position of University of Nebraska president.

He will visit the UNMC campus on Wednesday, Dec. 10. All students, faculty and staff are invited to a public forum from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Sorrell Center, Room 1005.

Dr. Martin’s visit will include stops and public forums at each University of Nebraska campus. Following the visit, the Board of Regents invites Nebraskans to submit their feedback via an online form that will be available here.

Dr. Martin has been chancellor of the Colorado State University System since 2012. Based in Denver, the chancellor is the chief executive officer of the CSU System, responsible for working with the board of governors to lead the system’s operations, set legislative strategy, serve as the primary spokesperson and increase engagement among alumni, donors and the business community.

Prior to joining the CSU System, Martin served as campus chancellor of Louisiana State University and A&M College. Before serving at LSU, he was president of New Mexico State University. Before arriving at NMSU in 2004, Martin served as vice president for agriculture and natural resources at the University of Florida, leading the university’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences with more than 3,000 employees statewide. He began his academic career at Oregon State University as a faculty member in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics.

A native of Crosby, Minn., Martin earned a bachelor’s degree in business and economics and a master’s degree in economics at Mankato State College (Minnesota State University). He received his Ph.D. in applied economics from the University of Minnesota. His areas of specialization are prices, international trade, public policy, transportation and business logistics.
