Lookin’ at U – Jessica Feilmeier

Jessica Feilmeier

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Jessica Feilmeier
  • Hometown: San Diego, Calif.
  • No. of years at UNMC: Four

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.

I coordinate the global blindness prevention and outreach division at the Truhlsen Eye Institute. Essentially, I'm the one dotting the "i"s and crossing the "t"s on planning, logistics and all things related to raising awareness, funding and the physical outreaches that our TEI teams go on. The end result is that the work I do behind the scenes helps our teams perform sight-restoring surgeries on patients who'd otherwise be living needlessly blind. I love what I do.

Working together is one of UNMC's brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group act as a trusted resource at UNMC.

Every time our team goes abroad we act as a trusted resource to the patients we serve. Individuals who don't know us trust their vision to our team and it's a responsibility we take very seriously as ambassadors of UNMC.

What is your favorite winter activity?

If I am not snow-shoeing, I love to curl up with a good book and a glass of wine next to the fireplace. This is a favorite activity because it rarely happens with my 2- and 3-year-old sons always in tow.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I'm trained in Spanish Web — it's an aerial circus skill using a rope or silk.
  • I'm the creator of a children's toy line called My Little Guardian Angel. It's a teaching toy for families that proudly supports Make-A-Wish Nebraska — I give $10 of any purchase to help answer the prayers of wish kids here in Nebraska.
  • I was the recipient of the Dean Margery Warmer Woman of the Year Award from San Diego State University.
