Era Fullwood, center, was a mainstay at the College of Nursing for more than three decades.

Era Fullwood spent 37 years at UNMC and was an administrator in the College of Nursing when she retired in 1991. The woman, whom everyone called Miss Fullwood, died Dec. 6 at age 85.

Fullwood joined UNMC’s nursing college in 1956, accepting a position as a clerk typist.

“Just about everyone called her Miss Fullwood, and she always called me Dr. Yeaworth,” said Rosalee Yeaworth, Ph.D., dean of the UNMC College of Nursing from 1979-94. “She managed the budget for the College of Nursing. You could trust that she knew every line of the budget, and she would advise me on any spending that needed to be done.

“She almost never missed a day of work. She had an office back in the corner and quietly went about her work. She was well-liked by all…a wonderful lady.”

Fullwood was named secretary to the director of the college in 1962 and was promoted to administrative assistant in 1969. She was named an administrator in 1986.

While working at the medical center, she attended classes part time and earned an associate’s degree in secretarial sciences from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1979.

Funeral services are today at 11 a.m. at Memorial Seventh Day Adventist Church, 840 N. 72nd St., with internment at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

I recall my many interactions with Miss Fullwood with fondness. She was such a dignified person, and always a joy to work with. Also quite savvy with budgeting and financial matters. She will be missed, i'm sure, by all who knew her.

Miss Fullwood (I never called her Era) was a very proper and astute person. She could be firm in dealings and yet knew how to compromise. She was totally comitted to the success of the College of Nursing on this campus. Those goals were accomplished.

Miss Fullwood was an incredible woman who in her 85 years impacted the lives of many.
She was the first person I encountered on the street when I joined the UNMC CON. She welcomed me and lead the way to my office. It was an honor to know her. She was a

woman ahead of her time. Mary J McNamee
