UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., and Nebraska Medicine CEO Bill Dinsmoor will help present a session on “Funding for Graduate Medical Education in Academic Centers — A Proposed Model for the Evolving Health Care Environment.”
They will join David W. Mercer, M.D., chairman of surgery, senior vice president for medical services, Chandra Are, M.B.B.S., vice chairman education for department of surgery, associate professor of surgical oncology, and Michael Wadman, M.D., associate dean for graduate medical education, for the discussion.
The presentation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 7 in the Durham Research Center Auditorium Room 1002.
The objectives of the presentation will be to:
- Develop an understanding of the history of graduate medical education (GME).
- Develop an understanding of the history of funding for GME.
- Provide an outline of the significant changes in the health care environment that are likely to influence GME and its funding in the future.
- Describe UNMC’s unique, novel and algorithmic financial model for GME funding, which can be a prototype for other academic medical centers.
The event is open to all interested members of the Nebraska Medicine campus.
