January’s Olson Center Brown Bag monthly lecture, held from noon to 1 p.m. today in the UNMC Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater, will focus on “Understanding Pelvic Organ Prolapse.”

About half of all women between the ages of 50 and 79 will experience some form of prolapse as a result of stretched or weakened pelvic floor muscles. While some lifestyle factors may place a woman at a higher risk for having prolapse, many risk factors are out of a woman’s control.

At the luncheon, Kristin Rooney, M.D., Olson Center urogynecologist, will explain the common symptoms of prolapse as well as recommended treatments.

Seating is limited. Please pre-register by calling the Olson Center at 559-6345. Bring your lunch. Simple refreshments will be provided.

The lectures are free. However, nursing contact hours are available for a registration fee of $10. Payment instructions will be given at pre-registration.
