NRG Media tours Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center

Leaders from the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center hosted a group of staff from NRG Media Jan. 20.

The group of on-air staff and station managers got an up-close glimpse at what the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center will be and what it will mean locally, nationally and globally to cancer research, treatment and education.

NRG Media, one of the largest radio station operators in the Midwest, toured research labs at Durham Research Center, the Peggy Cowdery Treatment Center in the Lied Transplant Center and the Oncology/Hematology Special Care Unit in University Tower.

The group heard personally from Ken Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center; Sarah Thayer, M.D., Ph.D., chief of surgical oncology, associate director for clinical affairs and physician-in-chief of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center; Jason Foster, M.D., associate professor of surgery; Don Coulter, M.D., pediatric hematology-oncology; and UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.

Drs. Foster and Coulter also invited patients to have lunch with the group.

They spoke about the level of expertise and caring they received during their time as patients at the med center.

The NRG Media group was at the medical center campus to learn about the existing and future facilities, as part of a partnership with the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

Through its seven diverse stations in the Omaha metropolitan area, NRG Media will help connect radio listeners in Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa to the life-saving research and clinical care taking place at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, the new $323 million facility taking shape on the UNMC/Nebraska Medicine campus scheduled to open in 2017.
