Aniruddha Agarwal, M.D., a post-doctoral clinical research fellow in the Ocular Imaging Research and Reading Center at the Truhlsen Eye Institute, is the winner of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) 2014 EyeWiki Residents and Fellows in Training Contest for his manuscript on Retinal Vasculitis. The AAO has set four categories of competitions for all residents and fellows in training across the United States:

  • Cataract/Refractive Surgery/Cornea/Anterior Segment.
  • Glaucoma/Neuro‐Ophthalmology.
  • Pediatrics/Strabismus/Oculoplastics/Orbit.
  • Retina/Vitreous/Uveitis/Oncology/Pathology.

Dr. Agarwal is the top winner in the Retina/Uveitis category, joining the elite groups of three other winners in the other categories. "It is wonderful that the quality of members-in-training at the Truhlsen Eye Institute is recognized through this prestigious award that Dr. Agarwal just won, as the competition is quite fierce. Since the Truhlsen Eye Institute was inaugurated in May 2013, we have been able to continue to attract residents and fellows of outstanding academic potentials to be trained at TEI," said Quan Dong Nguyen, M.D., the McGaw Memorial Chair of Ophthalmology and inaugural director of the Truhlsen Eye Institute. "Dr. Agarwal represents the caliber of residents and fellows whom we currently are mentoring and preparing at TEI," said Diana Do, M.D., vice chair for education at TEI. Dr. Agarwal will receive his award at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Mid-Year Forum in Washington, D.C., in April 2015 at the Academy's expense.
