Sixty members of the UNMC High School Alliance are among the students taking classes at UNMC this academic year.

The students come from high schools around the Omaha area and take college-level classes at UNMC to prepare for health careers.

Today we meet:

  • Name: Madisen Clevenger
  • High school: Douglas County West
  • Year: Senior

How did you get involved in the UNMC High School Alliance?

My medical terminology teacher recommended the program to me after I told her that I was interested in a medical career. I really liked how advanced the program sounded, so I applied.

What sparked your interest in science?

I first became interested in science when I learned about genetics in eighth grade. The direct application to people caught my attention, and it led me to think about becoming a doctor.

What are your career aspirations?

I want to become a trauma surgeon. The high-stakes environment seems like a good fit for me. I love the idea of being challenged every day.

What has been the best part of your UNMC High School Alliance experience so far?
The best part of being in the alliance so far has been meeting so many great people! I can see myself keeping in touch with them well into the future.
