Larah Daniels

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee.

This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Larah Daniels
  • Hometown: Victorville, Calif.
  • No. of years at UNMC: One and a half years

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
I am currently working as a certified ophthalmic assistant (COA) at the Truhlsen Eye Institute (TEI) and am responsible for providing the best care possible for all the patients that come through our doors. Despite many challenges, personally and professionally, with the support and encouragement of my colleagues and teammates, I was able to self-study and obtain my COA, an achievement of which I feel very proud. The certification helps me to work alongside the physicians at TEI to provide the best assessments and care for our patients. I love what I do and truly enjoy every patient I interact with and help care for at TEI.

Working together is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed group work together at UNMC.

On a daily basis, I see our clinic staff at TEI bring forth their best effort and amazing values to help our patients.

What is your favorite spring activity?
My favorite spring activity is going for long runs early in the morning as the sun is rising. It is so relaxing, peaceful and beautiful. I recently started running and am hoping to run my first marathon sometime this year. I also love planting a vegetable garden and picking all the wonderful vegetables and fresh herbs out of my garden.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • Having completed my COA degree, I am currently attending college studying to become a R.N.
  • In addition to my beautiful daughter, I also have a huge heart for animals of all different types and sizes, and if I could, I would have an animal refugee farm and rescue animals. I always have that part of me that would love to be a veterinarian.
  • Last but not least, I was actually born in Bellevue at Offutt Air Force Base as my father was in the military.
