Dr. Miles elected vice chair of kidney medical review board
Clifford Miles, M.D., associate professor of internal medicine-nephrology and medical director of the Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program, has been selected as the vice chair of the Heartland Kidney Network’s Medical Review Board.

Heartland Kidney Network is a non-profit corporation under contract with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The organization oversees the delivery of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) care for patients in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. This region serves as one of 17 in the country providing care, educational programs and resources to the kidney community.

In addition to joining the board in 2014, Dr. Miles has presented the past two years at the annual conference. He will serve as the vice chair in 2015, chair in 2016 and immediate past chair in 2017. “I’m honored and excited to work on behalf of patients and providers within our region,” Dr. Miles said.

Dentistry’s Moravec noted as top professor by national blog
Lisa Moravec, assistant professor of dental hygiene in the College of Dentistry, was featured as one of the “20 Top Professors of Dental Hygiene” on the blog Medical Technology Schools. Criteria for selection included active teaching, publication, thought leadership and extracurricular involvement.

Volunteer Services hosts book sale next week
Volunteer Services is hosting its semiannual Book Sale on April 8-10 in the West Atrium, located on the first floor of Durham Outpatient Center. The sale will run from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Proceeds from the book sale are used to support ongoing special projects for patients, including red nose clowns supplies, hospitality cart supplies, DVDs and other special requests.
