Today marks the beginning of the 2015 Nebraska Science Festival. And, with more than a dozen events on opening weekend alone, there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate science.
Fill your weekend with any number of family-friendly science events including weatherfest at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, an up close view of a storm chaser vehicle in the Joslyn parking lot, hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) workshops at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Fontenelle Forest, a Wayne State College planetarium show or giant LEGO sculptures at the Lauritzen Gardens.

The festival will conclude April 18 with events across the state, including at the Edgerton Explorit Center in Aurora, Metropolitan Community College South Omaha Campus and the SciFest public expo at The Durham Museum, which will feature a variety of hands-on activities including the world’s only portable, inflatable, walk-through brain exhibit.
Provided by Medical Inflatable Exhibits, the MEGA Brain® is approximately 18 feet long by 14 feet wide by 12 feet high. Visitors will enter the exhibit through the frontal lobe, which is responsible for personality and higher cognitive functions, and exit through the cerebellum, the portion of the brain responsible for balance and coordination.

The Nebraska Science Festival began in 2013 as an initiative of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, which continues to administer the festival with the assistance of a number of organizations and individuals interested in the advancement of science literacy.
The Science Festival is designed to make science accessible, interactive, relevant and fun for kids and adults alike.
