Eagle held several positions during his 38 years at UNMC, including handling campus TV operations, manager of biomedical communications and manager of ITS video services. A Navy veteran, he started at UNMC’s Nebraska Psychiatric Institute in 1973, recording patient sessions with Frank Menolascino, M.D.

“John was so very dedicated to providing the best service to everyone on campus,” said Max Thacker, associate director of ITS. “His many talents included the ability to determine solutions to complex problems and then to carefully explain the course of action to others. He led by example.”

“You ask anyone who knew John about him and the first thing they say is ‘He was such a good man,’ ” said Brenda Jeter, video resource scheduler. “Not only was he a good man, he was also an awesome manager. He had a way of making things happen and keeping everyone happy.

“The technicians he managed respected him and didn’t hesitate to do whatever he asked of them,” she said. “He was also very compassionate and supportive with all of his co-workers, not only at work but in our personal lives as well. He was a good friend.”

For many many years, a video IT problem was not a problem when John was around. He not only brought solutions, but a kindness that brightened the day.

I had the good fortune to have John as my next door neighbor…..and we discovered the first day of talking over the fence that we both worked here at UNMC. He was the first one to welcome me and give me the history of the whole neighborhood. He was such a kind generous man and much loved by his wife and family and friends. I will miss his smile and wave and just stopping to slow down and have an enjoyable talk at the end of a day. Rest in peace and know you will be greatly missed.

John Eagle was a wonderful Biomedical Communications employee who began his television engineering duties with us at Nebraska Psychiatric Institute and later moved to the central television unit. It was a pleasure to work with John during his many years in BMC and to have him as a friend and co-worker. His death has come too soon but he leaves behind great memories for all of us who knew and worked with him. Reba Benschoter
