Miami media travels to UNMC
On May 22, Kristi Krueger, anchor, WPLG TV-Miami, and Dan Palma, videographer, interviewed UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., about the medical center’s Ebola experience. During the annual Berkshire Hathaway weekend meeting earlier this month, Dr. Gold presented to media in town covering the event. A producer at the Miami station was inspired by his talk, prompting the trip to the medical center for interviews. The reporter also interviewed Ken Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., about the UNMC-IBM Watson collaboration. The stories will run in the near future.

Physical therapy grad named to post with Chicago Bears
Nate Breske, a 2004 physical therapy graduate of the UNMC School of Allied Health Professions, has been named the head athletic trainer for the Chicago Bears. Breske comes to the Bears from the San Francisco 49ers, where he has served as assistant athletic trainer since 2008. Prior to joining the 49ers, Breske did a summer internship with the New England Patriots and founded Physical Therapy Specialists in Watertown, S.D. He was an all-state football player at Webster (S.D.) High School and a starting quarterback at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D.

  • Samuel Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., pathology and microbiology, serves on the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Board of Scientific Counselors
  • Choudari Kommineni, D.V.M., Ph.D., alumnus of the department of pathology and microbiology research program in toxicology, funded a new professorship.
