Dr. Vose quoted in U.S. News & World Report on cancer drug study

Julie Vose, M.D.

Julie Vose, M.D., Neumann M. and Mildred E. Harris Professorial Chair and chief of the oncology/hematology division in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, as well as the associate director of clinical research and co-chair of the lymphoma program at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, is quoted in a June 2 U.S. News and World Report story, “New Drug Shows Potential for Blood Cancer.” The story concerns a study on elotuzumab, which, U.S. News reports, “reduced the risk of cancer progression and death by 30 percent when doctors combined it with the standard two-drug therapy for multiple myeloma.” Dr. Vose is quoted in her capacity as president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Vose is the third UNMC physician to serve as ASCO president. The others have been James Armitage, M.D., and Margaret Tempero, M.D. (now at the University of California, San Francisco). Seven Doctors project to hold a reading, fund-raiser on Monday
Members of the latest class of the Seven Doctors Project, part of the Nebraska Writers Collective, will provide brief readings of the works written during the most recent session of the project at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 8, at Slowdown on 729 N. 14th St. The reading is also a fundraiser for the non-profit program and donations are tax-deductible. There also will be an auction at the event to support the program. Doors open at 6 p.m. The reading begins at 7 p.m., and members of the Medical Mess Club will provide entertainment at intermission.

May retirements announced
The UNMC Department of Human Resources released a list of May retirements. They included:

  • Edward Meiers, printing services, retired May 2 (start date: Sept. 8, 1999)
  • Edward Ramspott, Eppley Institute administration, retired May 2 (start date Jan. 24, 1975)
  • Lorraine Myers, Munroe-Meyer Institute cytogenetics, retired May 16 (start date Sept. 11, 1989)
  • John Adams, College of Public Health, retired May 16 (start date June 15, 1987)
  • Mary Katz, student financial service, retired May 29 (start date Oct. 26, 1998)
