Energy curtailment in full swing

Mother Nature teased us last week but we are definitely feeling summer weather now and for the foreseeable future, which means we will be in energy curtailment probably all week!

Don’t forget to perform these actions so you are always ready when the treat patrol comes around:

  • Close mini-blinds, curtains, and shades to reduce solar gain.
  • Work in reduced lighting where possible.
  • Turn off lights when you leave any room (office, lab, conference room, etc.).
  • Turn off lights in places where it’s not currently needed (hallways with natural light, etc.).
  • Turn off and unplug any electrical equipment that’s not in use. Current runs whether the equipment is being operated or not and in addition to wasting power it also will put off heat.
  • Shut fume hood sashes when not in use.
  • Use less electricity whenever possible: open doors manually instead of using the ADA button, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc.

Your assistance with these actions, along with facilities controls, will help to save energy and the chillers will not have to work so hard and ensure adequate temperatures across campus.
