Festival to help fight blindness
The UNMC Global Blindness Prevention Division will be the beneficiary of the seventh annual Great Nebraska Beer Fest, to be held on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Werner Park in Papillion. The event, which features more than 50 craft brewery stations, will donate a portion of every purchased ticket toward funding surgeries for patients presently living needlessly blind throughout the world. Dr. Frankel named president of the Nebraska Medical Association
Harris Frankel, M.D., associate professor of neurological sciences at UNMC and chief medical director and senior vice president of medical affairs at Nebraska Medicine, will be installed as president of the Nebraska Medical Association during its House of Delegates and Inaugural Banquet Sept. 18, at the Regency Marriott Hotel in Omaha. David Merritt, former chief of staff for Michael Levitt, campaign advisor to Newt Gingrich and campaign advisor for Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign, will be the keynote speaker for the afternoon session of the House of Delegates meeting. A social hour reception will follow with political cartoonist Paul Fell providing the entertainment of caricature drawings for those in attendance. The meeting will conclude with the inaugural dinner to install Dr. Frankel as the 2015-2016 NMA president and honor Richard Blatny, M.D., as presiding president.
