Lunch series’ focus: Financial wellness

The UNMC Department of Human Resources will launch its fall sessions for the Learn@Lunch Series on Sept. 29.

The focus of this series is Financial Wellness, and it will feature experts discussing investing, personal finances and retirement planning.

The topics for the individual sessions are:

Sept. 29: Investing 101
Where: Sorrell Center Room 2010
When: Noon to 1 p.m.
Topic: Everything you need to know about investing but were afraid to ask
Mike Eglseder, vice president of Investments at Boys Town and asset manager at Prodigy, will give independent investment advice, help apply institutional investment advice to individual investments, and explain retirement investment options.

Oct. 14: Finances 101

Where: Sorrell Center Room 2010
When: Noon to 1 p.m.

Topic: Getting out of debt, creating a budget and understanding your credit score
Mike McDermott, president and CEO of Metro Credit Union, will discuss how to get out of debt and create a budget. McDermott also will discuss the effects of credit scores and how to protect finances in the digital age.

Nov. 11: Retirement 101

Where: Sorrell Center Room 2010
When: Noon to 1 p.m.
Topic: Will you be financially ready to retire when the time comes?

Jason Miller from TIAA-CREF will discuss how to maximize retirement savings, the rules governing the most common retirement accounts and how to determine when you are financially ready to retire. This session is appropriate for all employees, whether you invest with TIAA-CREF or Fidelity.
